A Walk on the edge

I walked to the shore in Charlottetown to take pictures.
However, the road was slippery and I gave up going.

Instead of a walk on the edge on island, I want to introduce several pictures from when I was in Russia.

These three pictures are on my way back from small business trip in Russia.  Please feel the mysterious boundary.

Hay cites Deleuze, who describes islands as being “eggs” of the seas, “a metaphor for rebirth” (Hay, 2013, p. 224).  This notion of being reborn of the sea also reminds me of the frozen sea in Magadan, Russia.

When I was in the east coast on Russia, the landscape on the way back to my apartment was very similar to the sea landscape view from Queen Street, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.  A gentle slope led to the sea, and the ocean could be seen both from the road in Magadan and from that in Charlottetown.  During winter, the sea is frozen in Russia and PEI, but in March or April, the surface of the ice starts to crack, and the inhabitants know spring is coming.  This has continued every year, for probably over thousands of years.  The sea is the symbol of rebirth, of being reborn, and cradles life on earth.
